Jeuti, the NGO was established in 1999 by a group of persons who are the alumnis of Govt Boys' Higher Secondary School of Jorhat. The name JEUTI ,which means "Jyoti" or light is taken from the name of the house magagine of the said school. Jeuti made its first appearance on 5th September of 1999, the day which is observed as Teachers' Day in India.

On that inaugural day Jeuti released a book on the life of Shri Sankardeva written by one of their ex teacher , scholar Late Bap Chandra Mahanta. The book was publilshed by Jeuti. On the same day twenty eight ex teachers of the school were also felicitated.

In the next few years Jeuti undertook several social work including free cataract surgery camps for poor, felicitation of ex state players and rural sports organisers of Jorhat.

In 2002 Jeuti established JEUTI EYE BANK, which was the first of its kind in Assam & North East India in private sector. Establishment of Jeuti Eye Bank ushered a new chapter in the eye care services in Assam. Before the establishment of Jeuti Eye Bank patients with corneal blindness either had to go outside Assam to get corneal transplantation done or remain blind. The former option was less viable as most of the corneally blind people are poor. Jeuti Eye Bank set the trend for corneal transplantation surgery in Assam by providing corneas to the surgeons.

Following the success of Jeuti Eye Bank Jeuti under took another adventurous project in the form of Agricultural Training Camps. Young cultivators were trained on modern farming techniques through three monthly training camps. Since 2005 Jeuti organised six such camps which provided great benefits to the young farmers.
